Tractor Hood
Tractor hood covers are made from a variety of materials ranging from aluminum to vinyl and steel. There are also versions that are fitted with rails and are used in place of windows. Some models of hoods also have wind deflectors and can be adjusted depending on the speed of wind in the area. However the most common material is the wood or plastic variety.
Tractor hood supports are fitted into an engine compartment, either on the side or rear of the tractor. They are intended to retain rain water or snow water that might collect in the cab or engine compartment while the tractor is in motion. Depending on the manufacturer, the hood support is designed to be strong enough to resist weight when it is taken off the tractor without causing damage. A cover for the engine compartment can be as simple as a hole in the dash or as complex as a swing-out door that opens and shuts. A hood support for an electric tractor is typically fitted into an open end of an aluminum radiator.
On newer tractors, the front of the grille (sometimes referred to as the "green hood") incorporates controls similar to those found on the newer "green" grade vehicles that are produced by Honda. The green hood is also available in models that are equipped with diesel engines. A red "Bemis" emblem is sometimes incorporated into the grille. The Bemis Company manufactures a full line of tractor hood accessories that are compatible with various manufacturers' brands of tractors.
