Tractor Hydraulic Control

A tractor hydraulic control is a type of control that includes a powerful motor (usually an electric motor), pressure transducers to detect the pressure at different parts of the tractor and some type of valve to control the fluid supply. The system incorporating a tractor hydraulic control has an integral control valve, usually referred to as an actuator or pump. The supply of hydraulic fluid to the system comprises the suction valve, pressure transducer and a movable actuator. The motor that moves the actuators is generally located in the cab or the bed of the tractor.

A tractor hydraulic control is an efficient, economical and reliable system that is used for operating almost all types of small and big trucks. It is an open loop system that uses the principle of counter-current, that means that the power input is always changing and so is the corresponding output. The control unit of a tractor uses the concept of transistors to sense the current condition of a tractor hydraulic cylinder and then changes the control valve to its second position accordingly. The fluid supply is again changed by way of a pressure transducer.

This control comprises a movable and stationary frame called the track, an active control element comprising at least one drive unit and one or more hydraulic cylinders driven by a pump, and an element referred to as a servo motor to alter the direction of rotation of the cylinder or to act as an indication device to the user. The operation of the tractor hydraulic control can be affected by various factors such as - low reserve air pressure, low tire pressure, slow speed, excessive speed, improper load, vibration and wear. The most common problems associated with the operation of the control units of a tractor are - overload, short circuit, loose wire, overload signal, open terminals, open switch, and low level voltage. It should be kept in mind that the overload control is not a reliable option in a tractor, as it opens the valve to the maximum level and overload conditions are more frequent and severe.
