Tractor Pto

The tractor has a Transmission which is the part that moves the engine and the rest of the tractor together. If you take apart any car, you will find that the transmission is under some big hood and it has a clutch and brake. The Tractor Transmission is just the same way, except for the clutch and the brakes. There are three different types of transmissions in a Tractor: Dry Sifting, Wet Sifting or Spray Drying.

In a dry sifting transmission, the input shaft is engaged with the spindle arm on the tractor. Then the next gear is engaged with the opposite end of the input shaft, and this creates a torque. When the tractor is turning, the turning force is applied to the motor and this causes torque to be applied to the transmission. There is an output shaft that goes from the tractor to the engine that is engaged when the gears are engaged and this creates a rotary force.

In a wetting or spray drying transmission, the rotary force comes from a solenoid, an electronic device, that senses how hard or softly the tractor is turning and then engages or disengages the drivetrain. When the force of the turning is released, the solenoid automatically resumes the turning process and the output shafts are spun in reverse. These processes are usually called dry side or wet sipping transmissions. Spray drying is more efficient than dry sifting as it only engages one set of drivetrain components. This type of Tractor PTO is used when maximum power take-off is needed. For this type of operation, there is no need to engage or disengage the output shafts.
