Tractor Side Panel

In the application of the Covered Walk Behind Tractor Trailer, the tractor's third parallel track is referred to as the tractor side. This side of the tractor has three sets of wheels with a straight edge running across them on the opposite side from the engine and driven by the front wheel. The side doors of the trailer open perpendicular to the track and are located on the right side of the tractor.

The second set of wheels is referred to as the cab end or the bed end. This side of the tractor has the same function of the tow bed and has two rows of wheels that are staggered by twenty-five degrees. The third set of wheels is referred to as the bed sides. These are located on the left side of the tractor and have to be tilted to the left when the tractor is at rest.

The tractor side panel has to be strong enough to withstand the weight of the whole tractor, its bed and the entire trailer when it is at rest. There are many things that can go wrong if this panel were to break. The trailer would topple over or the load could fall through the side. This would also explain why it is always best to use solid lumber when constructing this part of the tractor.
